Bipolar Depression My wife had suffered from depression for as many years as she can remember but the medication given to her served only to exacerbate her condition and make her feel unwell. On taking 5HTP her comment was, "Its the first time I have felt normal"! How she knew she was normal is beyond my comprehension but the 5HTP has almost, but not quite, provided a complete cure. Throw Away the Antidepressants! I don't usually write product reviews but this product deserves one. I suffer from subclinical depression and have had overt clinical depression in the past. I took Prozac for a few years and suffered from terrible side effects from the drug. I will never take an antidepressant again now that I use NOW 100mg 5-HTP daily. I have been using it for almost 4 years now and have never had a bout of depression since! I use anywhere from 1 to 4 capsules daily depending on my mood. The product has been consistent and safe with absolutely no side effects. It also encourages restful sleep when taken before bedtime. I cannot recommend it highly enough! This natural product is a true blessing! One word of warning: If you are currently taking an antidepressant or an MAO-inhibitor do NOT take 5-HTP until you have been off these drugs for at least 2 weeks! There can be a serious reaction if you do not wait for the 2 weeks.

excellent for migraines I suffered from wicked migraines and I mean wicked for 4 years until I found 5-HTP. My doctor had me on Klonopin 4 times a day and I was in the emergency room at least 2 times a month sometimes on a drip. 5HTP cut them 90%. I still have them occasionally, but they aren't as severe. Also, magnesium citrate is excellent for migraines.

Serotonin Dreams Great product. What they don't tell you about is that with 5HTP, especially when you first start using it, you remember your dreams when you wake up. Amazing stuff. And if you want to increase the effectiveness of 5HTP add about 50mg of Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate.

Works well with Melatonin I usually take only Melatonin-supplement to improve my sleep-patterns. However, occasionally, if I get over-stressed by work or if something else makes me feel on the edge right when I need to sleep - I feel that 5-HTP along with Melatonin gets the work done. I tried NOW Foods, 5-HTP and I feel that I got the expected results from it. I have tried 5-HTP before and my experience from ‘NOW Foods’ is that it’s just as good as any other of the quality brands. Additionally, I like this brand because you get a lot of caps in one bottle and at the right dosage, as opposite to those brands that sells 50-or-something pills at tiny dosage so you are forced to consume one bottle in couple of days :-) Also, it has no B6-vitamin added, which is very good, since according to my understanding B6 actually counteracts the effects of 5-HTP. Finally, its v-caps, which makes - maybe a small but still important - contribution to lessen bad treatment of animals :-)

Complements Melatonin I thought my nightly dose of Melatonin was sufficient to help me sleep but when I found myself consistently waking up in the middle of the night because of a health problem, I looked into 5-HTP. I didn't expect much since the two supplements are somewhat related but I wanted to give it a try anyway -- and I'm glad I did. I now do both and sleep solidly throughout the night. Give it a whirl. Just make sure to take it on an empty stomach because other amino acids (proteins) will "neuter" it.
