Wow! Excellent! I am thrilled! Finally! Someone's making a timed release 5-HTP! At bedtime I have taken 25mg of regular Natrol 5-htp (half a regular non-timed-release capsule) for over five years with pretty good results. However I had often noticed that if I accidently woke up in the middle of the night and took the other half, in the morning I was even more refreshed. Now I'm still taking the half-capsule of regular Natrol 5-HTP plus 25mg (one quarter tablet) of this timed release version at the same time before bed. Super, super, super! This combo is even better than either one alone. The regular 5-HTP sends me to sleep promptly and the timed release keeps me asleep and *dreaming sweetly* until morning, when I wake up refreshed. This timed release version is a godsend. I don't know if there is a problem with the tablet count, but frankly, I would buy it at three times the price.

Insomnia be Gone! I use this product as part of my battle against chronic insomnia. In addition to this time release product, I take 100 mg of Natural Factors conventional 5-HTP and Life Extension Foundation melatonin, to fall asleep. I also take time release melatonin. The combination of these products is helping me to get to sleep and stay asleep longer.

Timely delivery of a good product I very much like healthsuperstore's product pricing and their range. I'm quite happy with the Natrol, 5-HTP TR because they make good products and was the only time release one i could find.

5-HTP Rocks!!!

42 pills instead of 45 This is my first time using 5-HTP of any brand. I just received my order and I have a habit of counting my pills. Low and behold I only got 42 pills and not the 45 listed on the label. I wonder how often this happens to people who blindly believe they are getting what they pay for? Anyway, I hope they work, we'll see.

Natrol 5-HTP Good Product, tried another brand and didn't work. Seems to be a little milder right after you take it this way...

Brilliant formulation of 5-htp 5-htp is a rather expensive way to boost brain serotonin levels in this age of $4.00 copay SSRI meds. Of course, those meds rely on your body synthesizing enough serotonin to work with. Turns out that a sizable minority (~30%) of Europeans don't properly absorb l-tryptophan, so that can't bode well for mood. L-tryptophan is even more expensive than 5-htp, and more is needed to get the same amount of serotonin than from 5-htp. The problem with many 5-htp supplements is that they irritate the stomach. The stomach converts some of it locally into serotonin, which causes gastric contractions. Either that Natural Factors enteric coated product or this one is needed to allow this medication to break down in the small intestine rather than the stomach. Natrol's formulation probably delays the release of 5-htps until the pill reaches the small intestine. In addition, it may have a more even time release mechanism than the enteric coating on the Natural Factors product. I take 200mg before bed, and 100mg in the morning if needed. It's rather calming, and subtle. It is synergistic with Rhodiola Rosea, which acts as a natural COMT inhibitor (like Carbidopa, a perscription med) and helps prevent 5-htp from converting into serotonin peripherally rather than cerebrally.
