Inositol is the common name of myoinositol. It is said to:

Inositol, an essential component of the phospholipids that make up cellular membranes, is found in virtually every cell in the body. Recent research indicates that inositol helps establish healthy cell membranes, which facilitate nerve impulses.
The various forms of inositol are active in cell-to-cell communication, including the transmission of nerve impulses. Tissues that are affected include the brain, liver and muscles.
