What is DHEA?
DHEA is a hormone precursor produced primarily by the adrenal gland; it is activated in the peripheral tissues. It is one of the most important and powerful hormone in the human body. Adrenal glands secrete DHEA to be circulated as DHEA-sulfate (DHEAS) and it gets converted as needed into other hormones. Men derive 50% of testosterone from DHEA whereas women derive 75% of estrogen from it which is increased to 100% post menopause.
