Country Life Folic Acid 800 mcg (100 tabs)
Folic acid is important for everyone in maintaining health. It has long been known that folic acid plays an important role in the production of normal red blood cells, and that individuals who are deficient in folic acid sometimes develop a form of anemia called megaloblastic anemia (characterized by a reduced number of red blood cells).
Country Life Folic Acid:
- Important nutrient during pregnancy as it has a vital role in the healthy development of the fetus.
- Crucial nutrient for healthy heart and may protect from heart attacks and stokes.
- May help people suffering with depression as it controls elevated levels of homocysteine.
- May increase energy.
- May help in encountering Alzheimer's disease.
- May help in encountering Parkinson's disease.
Folic acid is one of the B Vitamins. Folic acid is essential for the metabolic processes in our body. It is also necessary for the synthesis of nucleic acids and the formation of hemoglobin in red blood cells. During pregnancy, folic acid is a vital nutrient and is essential for efficient neural tube development, which forms the brain and spinal cord. Pregnant women with an insufficient intake of folic acid are more likely to give birth prematurely or to deliver babies with low birth weight or with neural tube defects.
More recent studies suggest that folic acid also may help prevent heart disease and stroke. It appears that individuals who have a high level of a substance called homocysteine in their blood have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. Taking folic acid decreases the level of homocysteine in blood, possibly decreasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Studies suggest that folic acid also may reduce the risk of several cancers, including colon and breast cancer. While these studies have not proven a protective effect, they suggest that many people, besides women of childbearing age, may benefit from taking folic acid.

What are the benefits of Vitamins and Minerals?
Vitamins are essential to sustain life and we must get them from our natural foods or dietary supplements. The nutrition they provide help people feel better, more energetic and assist the body with normal functions. Vitamins and minerals are necessary for our growth, vitality and well-being.
Vitamins and minerals are essential for our body but they are no replacement for food. A vitamin or mineral has no caloric or energy value by itself, but when taken as a dietary supplement to your daily food intake, they can help supplement your daily diet by balancing out the deficiencies of improper eating habits, overcooked foods and non-nutritive, processed foods. Sometimes vitamins are used as therapies for various ailments and disease.

What role do minerals play to keep us healthy?
In addition to vitamins, your body needs minerals to aid in the assimilation of the vitamins. Minerals help accelerate the billions of chemical reactions occurring in your body all the time. Some help in the efficient metabolization of proteins, fat and carbohydrates. Others help regulate the utilization of certain vitamins. Minerals actually become components of the body structure - bones, cartilage, toenails and fingernails, and they contribute toward hardness and strength.

I have heard that taking Vitamin E increases DHEA levels in body, is that true?
Vitamin E has recently been shown to protect/ preserve critical DHEA levels in the brain. It is suspected that preserving DHEA levels in the brain may delay the onset of many mental degenerative diseases associated with "getting older". According to a study done by Japanese researchers, vitamin E deficient diet notably reduced brain (adrenal) DHEA levels. However, using more vitamin E did not increase adrenal DHEA levels beyond normal values.

When can magnesium deficiency occur?
Even though dietary surveys suggest that many Americans do not consume magnesium in recommended amounts, magnesium deficiency is rarely seen in the United States in adults. When magnesium deficiency does occur, it is usually due to excessive loss of magnesium in urine, gastrointestinal system disorders that cause a loss of magnesium or limit magnesium absorption, or a chronically low intake of magnesium.
Who may need extra magnesium?
Magnesium supplementation is usually indicated when a specific health problem or condition causes an excessive loss of magnesium or limits magnesium absorption. Healthy adults who eat a varied diet do not generally need to take a magnesium supplement.
Why is Magnesium important?
Magnesium aids in the transport of oxygen to muscle tissue, which promotes strength, endurance and relaxation. Magnesium also activates enzymes necessary for the metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids.
